Industrial Welding & Fabrication

This course is designed to equip participants with the advanced practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for industrial-level welding and fabrication work. It focuses on the welding of structural components, pipelines, and the fabrication of metal assemblies under realistic workshop conditions, preparing you for employment in the manufacturing, shipbuilding, refineries, oil & gas, and construction industries.

Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Understand different welding processes (such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG), Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)) and select appropriate processes for different materials and applications.
  • Prepare joint configurations and edge preparations for plates, pipes and structural members; set up welding machines and accessories correctly for specific jobs.
  • Fabricate metal structures: cut, bevel and weld plates, pipes, beams, and trusses, in different positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) and in high-demand positions such as 5G/6G pipe welding.
  • Apply fabrication techniques including aligning, assembling, tacking, weld sequencing, distortion control and finishing of welded assemblies.
  • Employ quality control and inspection techniques: detect weld defects, perform visual inspections and understand basic non-destructive testing (NDT) methods; interpret welding symbols and standards.
  • Understand safety practices and workplace regulations associated with welding and fabrication: personal protective equipment (PPE), safe handling of gases and equipment, hot work permit systems, ventilation, and fire prevention.
  • Gain awareness of fabrication drawings, material specifications, welding consumables selection, welding parameters (current, voltage, travel speed, electrode/filler materials), and how they affect weld quality and mechanical properties.
  • Develop the ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, bills of materials, and to work as part of a fabrication team under industrial conditions.
